The 2017-18 Kell wrestling banquet was held this past Tuesday and recognized many wrestlers for their contribution to the season and for their performance in the classroom.
This year’s team had 4 outstanding seniors that led the team to a 3rd place team finish in the Cobb County Tournament and to a 10th place finish in the 5A state tournament. Seniors include JT Richerson @ 152, Jordan Phillips @ 145, Noah Reese @ 182 and team captain Wes Echols @ 285. Jordan Phillips was named honorable mention on the All Cobb County team. The Cobb County team also recognized Joey Fredeman @ 126 and Andrew Parlato @ 220 as 2nd team All County. Making 1st team All County were Jake Boyd @ 120 and Alan Quarles @ 285. Kell had 3 wrestlers place in the 5A state tournament: Alan Quarles and Jake Boyd finished 4th and Andrew Parlato finished in 5th place.
Academic Award winners included 20 wrestlers that are currently maintaining over a 3.0 GPA. The top 4 wrestlers in each class received an academic award for being at the top of their class. Noah Reese has the highest GPA for the seniors and Matt Jones (11th), Hunter Kresge (10th) and Cameron Rex (9th) were at the top of their respective class.
Other award winners on the night were Jake Crosson who won the JV Most Valuable wrestler award and Andrew Reyes who was the Team Most Improved. Finishing the awards for the night were Alan Quarles who won the Varsity Most Valuable wrestler award and senior Noah Reese who won the Team Above Self award. The last announcement on the night was to recognize next years team captains as voted by the team, next year’s team captains will be seniors Jake Boyd and Alan Quarles.
